Every year during the holidays ESU 9 gives to a charitable organization. This year our staff in partnership with the Nebraska Early Development Network (EDN) focused on families in our region that could use extra support during the holiday season. Service coordinators at EDN met and created a list of families that could use extra help this season. The list was given to Kathy Bohnart, ESU 9 Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, and Cindy Nejezchleb, Administrative Assistant for the Special Education Program at ESU 9, and organized the event. ESU 9 staff generously provided the items for the eleven Christmas baskets that went out to our families.
Kathy stated “With limited resources, often our families find it hard to pay their bills and buy presents during the holiday season. On a recent visit to a local family they were asked about a Christmas tree. The family had to choose between paying bills or the tree and they were unable to afford one this year. We wanted to do this on behalf of this family and all the other families to help make the holidays more joyful for everyone.”
