Jan Hughes Retirement

Jan Hughes Retirement

When Dr. Tom Osborne announced his retirement in 1997 after twenty five years as the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, a sports writer from Texas wrote that things in Nebraska will never, ever, ever be the same. It turns out he knew what he was talking about. Things have changed, but people in Nebraska remember coach Tom in the highest regard due to his honor, character and integrity.

Janice (Jan) Hughes has worked at ESU 9 for fifty and one half years. In other words, Jan started working at ESU 9 the day it opened in 1967.  That’s a lot of time! That’s more than twice the amount of time when compared to Nebraska’s championship coach. Someone once said that all good things must come to an end. In this case, Jan has announced her well deserved retirement.

I know what that sports writer from Texas meant when he wrote about coach Osborne, because things will never, ever, ever be the same at ESU 9 without Jan Hughes. Without a doubt we will  remember Jan Hughes with respect due to her honor, character and integrity. The legacy she leaves will always be unmatched. Thank you from all of us, and may God bless you and your family.

A retirement reception will be held to honor Jan on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 4:00 – 5:30 at ESU 9.
